It has been a club rush week at Fresno City College. Is there an academic advantage or is it more of a social exercise? I've never been in a sorority or any school clubs or memberships before. I saw there were ones for Engineering and Science, student government, etc. Is this beneficial for transferring, resume building, any form of college credit or just for personal enrichment? I'm thinking of joining one or two and signed up but I still am looking to find out what the big picture of clubs at college entails.

Im not actually sure about this. I think that id depends what club you join. For instance if you decide to join a club that will help you with your major that would be beneficial but sports clubs and stuff probably will not.
It's honestly hit or miss and depends on the purpose of the club. Each club is different, and it's more so about the people who are in it. In my experience, some of them seem more like just to hang out and socialize while others are about academics or certain activities. What is your major? If I were you, I would choose a club that aligns with that or one that seems interesting to you then see if you vibe with the people. It's definitely a huge plus if you are going to transfer and build your resume. Colleges want to see that you got involved and can balance academics and other. For me it's been a great way to network as well, because its not always easy to meet new people on campus. And then you have people you can rely on to help you out. Would recommend, but definitely explore your options until you find the right fit. Best of luck Ashley!
